Born Robert Paul Westman, the shooter legally changed their name to Robin in 2020 at age 17, with court documents stating the change was because they “identified as female and wants her name to reflect that identification”. Westman’s mother, Mary Grace Westman, had worked as a parish secretary and administrative assistant at Annunciation Catholic Church until her retirement in 2021. The shooter is believed to have attended the school as a child, suggesting a personal grudge that may have festered over years.
Westman lived in nearby Richfield and had recently worked at a cannabis dispensary. No prior criminal history has been reported, but the manifesto’s content reveals obsessions with violence, guns, and anti-Christian sentiment. A sticker in the notebook featured LGBTQ and transgender flags alongside a gun and the slogan “Defend Equality”, blending radical identity politics with threats of harm.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a Democrat, quickly urged against “villainising” the trans community, shifting focus from the victims to protecting progressive sacred cows. But let’s be clear: this isn’t about scapegoating an entire group—it’s about confronting the radical elements within it that lead to such atrocities. The left’s obsession with trans ideology, often at the expense of mental health support, has created a powder keg.
