A man has been remanded in custody for the murder of one man and the attempted murder of seven other people after the savage and barbaric knife attack that took place in Birmingham over the weekend.
27-year-old Zephaniah McLeod, of Nately Grove, Selly Oak, Birmingham, has been remanded in custody, accused of the heinous murder of Jacob Billington along with the attempted murder of seven other people in a barbaric, unprovoked knife attack.
He spoke only to confirm his personal details when he recently appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court via video link. He was remanded in custody during the five-minute appearance and is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday, again via video link.
The man killed by McLeod has been named as Jacob Billington, who was stabbed in the neck while he was on a night out with school friends from Liverpool, who were visiting one of their group that is now studying in Birmingham.
Mr Billington’s friend, Michael Callaghan, is one of three people still in hospital after the attack. and is reportedly in a critical condition.
A 30-year-old man remains in a serious condition and a 22-year-old woman, who was attacked in Hurst Street, is in a critical, but stable condition.The other four victims of the savage attack have since been discharged from hospital.
The seven victims of the attempted murder charges were named on Wednesday in court as Dimitar Bachvarov, Migle Dolobauskaite, Thomas Glassey, Shane Rowley, Rhys Cummings, Ryan Bowers, and Mr Callaghan.
Three other people, who were arrested in the raid of the address at Nately Grove, on suspicion of assisting an offender, were released on Tuesday pending further police investigation.
